PowerNation TV’s Engine Power team of Frankie Forman and Pat Topolinski pulled a remanufactured Chevy 4.3L V6 out of mothballs with the intention of building a nice naturally aspirated street engine. Things got out of hand and the 4.3L ended up with EFI and a turbocharger. At 13.8 psi of boost, the engine made 485 peak horsepower and a whopping 524 lbs.-ft. of torque. Not shabby at all for the Chevy 350’s little brother.
The 4.3L was a mid-1990s reman engine with a .020 in. overbore, a hydraulic roller camshaft, and a balance shaft. Engine Power tore it down and gave the block a .030 in. overbore. The reciprocating assembly features the stock crank, resized and weight-matched stock connecting rods upgraded with ARP bolts, and Wiseco Pro Tru Street forged flat top pistons. The camshaft is a COMP Cams Magnum hydraulic roller rated at 215°/220° duration @.050 and .500″/.510″ lift.
