Twenty years ago, if you told someone you could build a 1,000 hp turbocharged GM LS engine with off-the-shelf parts—one that would live longer than a couple of dyno pulls—they would have some serious questions about your mental state.

Today, getting 1,000 streetable horsepower out of a turbo engine is within reach of any hot rodder that’s built an engine or two. To prove it, we built a twin-turbo 6.0L LS engine with parts readily available on our website. In fact, the engine eclipsed the 1,000 hp mark, making 1,202 horses at 6,400 rpm and 1,119 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm with 26 lbs. of boost.

The short block is based on a Chevrolet Performance Parts 6.0L Gen III cast iron block. The rotating assembly comes from the Summit Racing™ Pro LS line—4340 steel forged crank with a 4 in. stroke, 4340 steel H-beam connecting rods, 2618 alloy forged pistons, and a piston ring set with gas-nitrided top rings. The cam, rod, and main bearings are from Clevite. Rounding out the Summit Racing™ Project 1000 turbo 408 CID LS engine short block parts combo are Chevrolet Performance and Summit Racing™ crankshaft keys, a Summit Racing™ Freeze Plug Kit, and a Summit Racing™ Rear Main Seal Housing.
