PowerNation TV’s Engine Power had a theory: if you build two identical engines and strap them together on the dyno, they should make double the horsepower of just one engine. They built two 496 cu. in. big block Chevies using the exact same parts, dynoed them individually, and figured out how to hook them together on the dyno. Together, the 496s made 1,167 peak horsepower and 1,212 lbs.-ft. of torque. That is just a shade less than the 1,204.2 hp and 1,261.7 lb.-ft. torque the engines were calculated to make.

Our Engine Power DejaVroom 496 CID big block Chevy short block part combos have some of the components used to build one engine that makes around 600 hp and 530 lbs.-ft. of torque. You can have a lot of fun with that.

Engine Power put together the 496 short blocks with help from NHRA Nitro Funny Car legend and engine builder Tim Wilkerson. Each block was fitted with an Eagle Specialties forged 4340 steel crank, Eagle Specialties ESP 4340 H-beam rods, and ICON FHR Series forged pistons with Total Seal rings. Engine Power used a mix of standard and .001 in. thinner King main and rod bearings to achieve consistent oil clearance. King camshaft bearings, ARP main bolts, and a Fel-Pro rear main seal round out the combo.
