Summit Racing™ Billet Distributors ( Order Billet Distributors by Summit Racing in our online shop )
Our Summit Racing™ billet distributors provide reliable spark throughout the rpm range, so they’ll deliver the performance you need, no matter what you drive–race car, street machine, or hauler. The affordable distributors have high-dollar features that outperform the competition, like a lightweight aluminum housing that’s precision CNC-machined for strength and stability, polished steel shafts with sealed ball bearings for stable operation through 10,000 rpm, and a maintenance-free, high-output magnetic trigger for accurate and reliable performance. The distributors have a black alkyd cap and an adjustable mechanical advance, so you can precisely tune the curve to your engine setup. Some models also feature vacuum advance. An ignition box is required for use with Summit Racing™ billet distributors.

I’m always a little skeptical when buying a “knock off” product. Will it be as good as the original? In this case the Summit distributor works as good as the original. The dyno shop that worked on my motor even commented that it was as good as the name brand they normally use.

This distributor works great with the new fitech EFI I installed, it allows the EFI to control my timeing. Thanks to you Buy Auto Spare Parts Online

I have had nothing but problems with this distributor from day one. First the cap did not fit properly. I had to sand on the bottom to remove the flashing to get it to seat properly on the base. Then the lock out mechanism came loose on one occasion, ,and then the locking pin finally broke off due to a poor weld. After fixing all of that, the distributor was good for about eight months before pin that holds the reluctor in place, broke. After fixing that, the weld holding the top that holds the rotor on finally broke, leaving me stranded roadside. All in all that was five issues with this one distributor in less than two years. You win Summit. I give up. I’m buying an MSD this time.

Looks well made. The unit came with extra springs and bushings to re-curve to my application. Excellent instructions for setting advance curve.
It’s been in my bracket car a short time and works like a charm. Would give 5 stars but we will see how long it holds up. Thanks Buy Auto Spare Parts Online for providing a lower cost high quality alternative for the budget bracket racer. Buy Auto Spare Parts Online Rules!

This is basically the same as the MSD pro billet mechanical advance distributor. Shaft is not shimmed quite as tight, and the distributor cap moves a little more when held down with the spring loaded hold downs, but it is built out of essentially the same parts and functions the same. I have both, and would not hesitate to buy this Summit distributor again and save some cash in the process.
I used it for setting up timing control with a FiTech GoEFI 4 600HP throttle body. Could not have been easier. The MSD adjustable rotor fits and worked great. You can get this distributor and the adjustable rotor together for less than the competition’s distributor alone. It’s a no brainer.

I would surmise this distributor is made by MSD for Summit. It looks exactly the same inside and out. Comes with a black cap that I changed to an MSD cap (see pictures). Both the the original black cap and the MSD cap are identical except for color and MSD moulded into the MSD one. As the instructions state you can cut off the spring loaded HEI style retainer clips and install the nice stainless allen head screws that are included to retain the cap (need to rotate the cap 45 degrees, so move all the plug wires one over). Includes a tuning kit with one lighter set of advance springs and additional advance limit stops.
You will need an external control box (Summit one, MSD StreetFire or 6AL etc etc). The distributor is just a trigger.

Distributor looks decently built and assembled. Clearance can be an issue, as in my case it hit the intake manifold for the blower (Weiand 174). It required a fair amount of grinding to the intake to make it fit.
Worked great at the engine test bench for a couple of hours of run time and then it died. Testing revealed the cap is likely shot. Dissapointing to say the least.
It would also be nice as well if it came with a better assortment of advance stop bushings to dial in more initial timing.

I initially ordered a HEI distributor for my carb’d 5.0HO conversion, but it was the wrong one. Summit support recommended this one and it worked beautifully!!
Installation was painless as it dropped right in, and fired off beautifully.

I have one of these Distributors and I wish it had a wiring map like the one posted here. It comes with instructions but only an explanation of the wiring. Just a helpful tip.

Was thrilled with the first light off… maybe 4hrs of running time and distributor stopped working. No spark, car wouldnt start. Called tech support, they approved replacement and it’s on the way… we’ll see how the next one plays out? Lucky to be at home, and thinking I should add a spare distributor to my trunk tool kit!
Will re-evaluate once I have one that works for more than a couple hours.
Revised…ran all summer with no problems on new unit. Customer service was great and I’ll keep dealing with Summit because of it.

I received the first one at they look impressive but it only lasted about 3 months and quit, I called tech support and they sent out a replacement and It sat on the shelf until I installed a new crate engine and fired it up and it worked great but then after I started it up the second time and started to tune the engine it started running rough and quit and would not fire back up. The distributor went bad again, luckily for summit it took so long to get the car back together with all the upgrades (that were bought at summit) that the warranty was up and they don’t have to replace it. It looks good, easy to install, but I wouldn’t trust one to make it across town without leaving you sitting on the side of the road.

Bought this dizzy after one of the soldering points on the circuit board in my Accel came undone and starting cutting out on me. Took some time to get right, but a year later and still looks and does what it needs to do! My main issue is the vacuum canister – there’s no mention of how much advance it gives and had to measure myself, which is around 20* if I remember right – gave me some issues with setting it up at first. Another issue you may have is air cleaner clearance, mine slightly rests on one of the plug wires (’65 289, HiPo cleaner).
Overall a pretty good product for price, would recommend for mild builds on a budget.

Needed a change in distributors and this one fit right in, Looks/price/simple hookup. Fired right up and after a little playing with springs it seems to be better now. “FYI” Just so you dont panic like I did, when this distributor is running under 900-1000 it multi fires and will cause your timing light to look bouncy on the timing marks, Just up the RPM’s a little and time it. Also dont use a dial-in timing light, it wont work right. Wiring map is shown. Really makes the car run good. I would suggest to a friend.

The product is of good quality and worked great for what I wanted with easy instructions. The description of the product could be better though so you know what you may be needing to do at installation.
Example:
1. If you want to retain the same exact engine position as your previous V8 you may have to lose the A/C compressor and trim the front of the adapter plate. I still give this 5 stars, because if you are doing an engine swap you should be able to handle minor details like this through logic, trimming and/pr fabrication.
2. Due to the added thickness the adjustable plates give you, your will effectively be doing a 1/2″ or so motor mount lift. If you already had your engine mounted high in the engine bay, this could cause some hood clearance issues, especially if you are running the truck intake on an LS.

Summit RTR billet distributor
I recently purchased this distributor for my 65 Galaxie 390 after a pertronix failure and switching back to points for a while. This is a well built unit and it looks nice and clean, especially after ditching the vacuum advance. Setting the advance curve is easy and installation was a breeze. You have to run a coil with .70 ohms or less primary resistance, more will damage the distributor. Performance is excellent, with faster throttle response and a consistent spark throughout the rpm range. It’d be nice to have a rev limiter like the MSD, but I’m not willing to pay almost twice as much for it.
